Yes. And as a child of the 80's... I loved it. LOVE, I tell you. I miss the 80's.

I'm not sure exactly at what point the "pants-falling off / undie elastic as fashion statement" thing started, but I see no sign of it in pre-late-80s vintage visuals. I can forgive the hair curlers as accessories. I can forgive leggings, leg warmers (actually, I *like* legwarmers) and gummi bracelets. I can forgive the neon colors and the ...crap, whatever the clothing that changed color based on your body heat was. I can forgive ripped Guess denim jackets. I can EVEN forgive oversized sunglasses and super soakers. But I will NEVER live down the drop-pants. At least when it first started we wore (neon) suspenders to make sure the pants stayed on us. I mean, of all fads to stick around. I swear kids these days have special underwear that they button their pants to to keep them on.

I don't remember the drop-pants. I remember parachute pants.

Oh man, I *had* parachute pants. Are you a bit older than me? Was it a Florida thing? I remember the insane-drop-waist-baggy pants as being fairly late in my HS years - but then when I went to college in CO they'd never heard of them...

*a couple wikipdia entries later* Okay, Kriss Kross was 1992, and that was the backwards pants, which led to backwards pants with suspenders which led to forwards pants with suspenders which led to asscrackland.

(Holy crap, all trails of asscrack seem to lead back to Florida!)

*laugh* I was in college in 1992. I remember Kriss Kross but I wasn't a fan of them.

Drop-waist made a brief appearance my senior year (in merryland, 93), but then vanished at college. Otoh, I started hanging around older people once in college.

Fuck. In. Awe. SOME! I love the mower shot. The history shots are amazing, though. That's some beautiful, serious chronological documentation.

Oh, you missed the icing on the cake in shot two. That's a genuine 70s mood ring. Yep.
