YES WE CAN HAS!

Mayor Nickels apparently got enough shit over snowpocalypse that he's actually going to let the city salt, lest we hire someone else who would.

I'm all for saving the fishies and all, but sometimes you need to be prepared snow the sark. "Intentionally packing the snow on major routes" MY ASS. Every city in the civilized world that can reasonably expect to get snowed on has better ways of handling it than Nickels did this year.

In other news, I've discovered a new form of PMS: PNG Monster Syndrome. It's like regular PMS, except it's caused by a fluffy puppy's brattiness, and it can strike AT ANY TIME. SIGH. How long until he grows up?

No everyone is bitching, "OMG! Snow! We need salt!"

Then in a year or two when all of our vehicles are rusting out, "OMG! We can't use salt! It's too destructive!"

I was bitching "OMG does this city own more than 3 plows, and why aren't the plows, you know, PLOWING when I see them going down the road"? I think salting all the roads if we suspect snow would be overkill, but salting the major roads would have allowed the plows to run on the secondaries and would essentially stretch the city's resources. I loved the photoshop of the plow front on the bus. Now THERE's innovation!

The other thing I noticed was that the plows had a rubber lip on the bottom of the plow. Which helps preserve the asphalt, but does nothing to get the ice off the street.

Gotta give props to the bus service tho. Yeah there were routes canceled and people whined, but I still saw a lot of buses out doing the best they could, and we even saw some workers out gritting trouble spots so the buses that couldn't use chains due to wheel clearance but were still running like the postal service anyway could navigate.

Yeah, I was on a few of those buses, and they really made the effort in difficult conditions.
